710 is a number the scene uses as shorthand for concentrates. The reason is a visual trick: write it on a display, turn it upside down and it reads OIL.

Banger

A banger is a quartz bucket that drops into a dab rig and gets heated from the outside with a torch. The concentrate goes in it.

Solventless Extraction

Solventless extraction is making concentrate without chemical solvents. You work only with what is available mechanically and physically.

Budder/Butter/Badder

Budder is a concentrate with a creamy consistency that looks like softened butter. It comes about because the material is whipped as it is finished — air gets into the structure and the mass lightens and fluffs up.

Butane Hash Oil (BHO)

BHO (Butane Hash Oil) is the umbrella name for concentrates made by butane extraction. It is not one specific thing — shatter, wax, budder and crumble all fall under BHO. They differ only in the finish.

Butane Extraction

Butane extraction is the process where butane passes through plant material and carries the cannabinoids and terpenes out with it. Then it evaporates off and concentrate is what is left.

Butane Torch

A butane torch is the heat source for a banger. There is no other way to get quartz up to working temperature without electricity.

Carb Cap

A carb cap is the lid you drop on the banger once the dab is in. It lowers the pressure inside, so the concentrate vaporises at a lower temperature than it would need in an open bucket.

CO₂ Extraction

CO₂ extraction uses carbon dioxide pushed into a supercritical state — under high pressure and temperature it behaves as a gas and a liquid at the same time.

Crumble

Crumble is a concentrate with a dry, crumbly structure that looks like a broken-up biscuit. It comes from a longer, warmer finish in which the mass gives off more moisture and loses cohesion.

Dab

A dab is a small dose of concentrate you carry into a hot banger, where it vaporises. The whole technique takes its name from it — dabbing.

Dab Nail

A dab nail is the heated part of a dab rig that the concentrate goes onto. The term gets used alongside "banger" and shops mix the two freely.

Dab Pen

A dab pen is a portable vaporiser for concentrates. Instead of a rig, a torch and a wait, you get a battery, a chamber and a button.

Dab Rig

A dab rig is water filtration built for concentrates. Instead of a bowl for flower it has a joint for a banger or a nail.

Dabber

A dabber is the tool you pick concentrate up with and drop into the banger. They are made from stainless steel, titanium, glass or ceramic.

Distillate

Distillate is an extract that has been through distillation, leaving practically nothing but one target compound — no waxes, no chlorophyll, no residual solvents and no aroma.

THCA Diamonds

Diamonds are large, sharply defined THCA crystals. The difference against small crystals is only size, and how long they were left to grow.

Dome

A dome is a glass hood that older rigs used over the nail to keep vapour out of the room. A setup with one is called a domed nail, one without it domeless.

Ear Wax

Ear wax is slang for a concentrate with a soft, gooey consistency. The name is descriptive and exactly as unflattering as it sounds.

Errl

Errl is slang for concentrate in general, whatever the consistency.

Hot Knife

The hot knife is a historical method that predates dab rigs. Two knives were heated on a hob and the concentrate went between them.

Isolate

An isolate is the pure form of a single cannabinoid, separated from everything else that was in the plant. Most often that is CBD.

Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are a group of compounds the cannabis plant naturally contains. There are over a hundred of them and you meet them on labels as abbreviations.

Concentrates

A concentrate is an extract of the plant with the plant material taken out of it. What is left is resin — and depending on how it is finished, it comes out with a different consistency every time.

Live Resin

Live resin is a concentrate made from material that was frozen straight after harvest instead of dried. Hence "live".

Low-Temp Dab

A low-temp dab is the technique of letting the banger fall to a lower temperature than a normal dab is taken at. The reason is flavour.

Nail

A nail is the older name for the part of a rig where concentrate vaporises. In most setups the banger has replaced it.

Full-Spectrum Extract

A full-spectrum extract is a concentrate that keeps the original make-up of the plant — not just one target compound, but the other cannabinoids and terpenes that were in there with it.

Quartz Banger

A quartz banger is a banger made from quartz glass. It is the usual material because quartz has no taste of its own and does not react with what you put in it.

Reclaim

Reclaim is the residue that collects on the walls of a rig and the floor of a banger after a few sessions. It is material that vaporised but condensed before it made it any further.

Rosin

Rosin is made by pressing material between two heated plates. No solvent, just heat, pressure and a filter bag.

Sauce

Sauce is a concentrate that separates in the jar into two phases: solid crystals and around them a thick liquid. That separation is the intention, not a fault.

Shatter

Shatter is a hard concentrate with a glassy, transparent look. Cold, it snaps like brittle toffee, which is where the name comes from.

Sklo

Glass is the base material for rigs, bangers and dabbers. It does not react with what is in it, it holds no smells, and you can see how clean or filthy the piece is.

THCA Crystals

THCA crystals are the crystallised acid form — the shape the compound naturally takes in the plant until it is heated.

Tincture

A tincture is a liquid extract dissolved in a carrier — most often a plant oil or alcohol. It is sold in a glass bottle with a dropper.

Vape Cartridge

A vape cartridge is a small sealed container of liquid that screws onto a battery with a 510 thread. Inside is the atomiser — the heating element that vaporises the contents.

Water Hash (Bubble Hash)

Water hash, or bubble hash, is made in ice water. In the cold the trichomes go brittle, agitation breaks them off, and mesh bags then separate them from the rest of the plant.

wax

Wax is a concentrate with a soft, waxy consistency. It comes about because the material is stirred or whipped while it is being finished — the structure breaks up, the mass goes matte and soft.

Winterization

Winterization is a cleaning step that strips waxes, fats and lipids out of an extract. They end up in there during extraction along with everything else.
