Banger

A banger is a quartz bucket that drops into a dab rig and gets heated from the outside with a torch. The concentrate goes in it.

The floor decides everything, not the wall. A thin floor heats in seconds and dumps that heat just as fast. A thicker floor takes longer to bring up and then holds steady through the whole dab — which is why people running low temps like it. The wall is mostly about durability.

Check two things before you buy: joint diameter (14 mm and 18 mm are standard, 10 mm now and then) and gender — a male banger goes into a female joint and the other way round. Then the angle: 45° for rigs with a slanted neck, 90° for straight ones.

Maintenance is all about timing. Swab the banger with a cotton bud while it is still hot. Once residue cools it bakes on, and from there it is isopropyl and patience.

Look at the neck of your rig. If a tube sticks out of it, it is male and takes a female banger. If the neck is a hollow hole, it is female and takes a male banger. Measure the diameter across the outer edge with calipers.

Residue that baked into the glass over several heat cycles. Swabbing while hot prevents it. Do not bin a hazed banger — soak it overnight in 99% isopropyl with a pinch of salt.

Depends how you treat it. Cracks are almost always thermal shock — cold water on hot glass, or a carb cap dropped on hard. Treated sensibly it is months to years.
