A butane torch is the heat source for a banger. There is no other way to get quartz up to working temperature without electricity.
What to look at:
- Refillable tank and its size — a small torch is empty after three sessions.
- Flame control — without a wheel you are guessing at everything.
- Safety catch and lock — a torch that can light in a pocket is a problem.
- A stable base — you will stand it down hot on a table many times.
Fill it with refined butane only (usually labelled 5x or 7x filtered). Cheap butane gums up the valve and the torch starts spitting flame sideways.
Heat from the side and underneath, not straight down into the floor. And never aim the flame at the water in the rig or at the joints.
