A tincture is a liquid extract dissolved in a carrier — most often a plant oil or alcohol. It is sold in a glass bottle with a dropper.
How to read the label. The percentage gives you the concentration, the milligrams the total amount in the bottle. Ten percent in ten millilitres is a thousand milligrams. If a bottle carries neither figure, there is nothing to compare.
The carrier is not a detail. Oil has a different taste, a different stability and a different shelf life than alcohol. MCT oil is the most common because it is neutral and stable.
Dark glass and cold. Light breaks the extract down — which is why tinctures are never bottled in clear glass. Once opened, use it within the period given on the packaging.
Look for a test of the specific batch. What is on the label is the producer's claim; a test is a measurement.
