Chazzing: the silent banger killer - a mistake that destroys both taste and equipment

Problem, that most people overlook
In the dubbing community, people often talk about temperatures, terpenes or material quality. But one thing remains significantly underestimated - the so-called "dubbing". chazzing. At first glance, it's just a „dirty“ banger.
In reality, however, it is irreversible damage to the quartz surface, that:
- destroys the taste
- impairs performance
- significantly shortens the life of the banger
Many users do not even realise that they are gradually destroying their devices through poor technology.
What is chazzing?
Chazzing refers to the process whereby:
Remains extract are exposed to too high a temperature and subsequently burn (carbonise)
The result is that: these burnt residues are literally bake into the micropores of the quartz banger and creates a permanent matt, dark or cloudy layer
The important thing to understand is that it's not just surface dirt - it's structural change of the material.
As chazzing arises - the real course
Chazzing is no accident. It arises from a combination of several factors:
1. Too high temperature
If the banger is red-hot, the concentrate will not evaporate properly but will start burn and decompose
2. Residual extract after dab
After each dab, a thin layer of oil remains on the surface. If you don't remove it, it's a problem.
3. Repeated heating
When heated again, this residue is burnt again and gradually „burns“ deeper into the material
4. Damage to the quartz structure
In the long term, there is:
- change in the structure of quartz
- the formation of a porous, rough surface
- permanent clouding
This process is called devitrification - and it's irreversible.
As you'll know you've got a chazzed banger
Typical symptoms:
- dark or grey spots on the bottom
- milky / cloudy appearance
- rougher surface inside
- burnt taste even with quality material
If the banger no longer looks clean even after cleaning, it is probably „chazzed“.
Why is chazzing a problem ?
❌ Ruined taste
The burnt residue produces an unpleasant „burnt“ profile which overpowers the terpenes then even expensive concentrate tastes bad!
❌ Uneven heating
The damaged surface loses its ability to distribute heat evenly and thus changes the vaporisation behaviour of the material.
❌ Shorter service life
Chazzing is cumulative - it gets worse with each dab and the banger is sooner or later unusable.
Most common the mistakes that lead to it
Here are the real things users are doing wrong:
- dubbing at extremely high temperature
- no cleaning after each use
- „burning“ the residue with a torch
- repeated heating without cleaning
- insufficient cooldown phase
The biggest myth:
„I'll burn it and it'll be clean“ - in fact, you'll only make it worse.
He will give is chazzing removed?
Short answer: not really.
Once the resin is baked into the pores and the quartz structure is disturbed, the original state cannot be returned!
You can remove some of the surface dirt, improve the appearance but the taste and characteristics will not be the same as before..
As Prevent chazzing (most important part)
✅ Check the temperature
- don't dab in a red-hot banger!
let it cool to the ideal range - Clean after every dab
FAT STIX cotton buds immediately after use and ideally also isopropyl - Don't let the residue dry
old oil = future chazzing - Don't torture the dirty banger
you'll bake the carbon even deeper - Patience = longer life
- better technique → better taste and endurance
Conclusion: Small detail, big difference
Chazzing is a typical example of how poor technique can ruin otherwise good equipment.
It's not just about looks - it's about:
- taste
- performance
- long-term costs
The one who understands chazzing and precedes it always has a better dubbing experience.
